Paul initially began work as an AST in Initial
Teacher Training (ITT) working with the universities
of Leeds, York and Huddersfield. He runs sessions
with KJS ITT students on Assessment, Teaching
and Learning strategies, Behaviour Management
and other pedagogical issues. He is also Teaching
Advocate for the TDA speaking at 'Teach in London'
and contributing to KJS's Taster Conferences held
in January 2003, October 2004 and January 2006.
Paul currently works as an AST delivering the
MFL framework and associated training at KS3 whilst
supporting languages departments in schools across
the county. In the absence of a County Languages
Advisor, Paul has been involved in leading regional
training and facilitating the sharing of good
practice in languages teaching. KJS are also involved
in a Primary Languages Project with local schools.
Paul has had a most eventful time since becoming
the National Winner of the Secondary
Teacher of the Year award at The
Teaching Awards 2003. He has been invited
to write a column for Women's Own, participate
in Channel 4's 'That'll Teach 'em', and appear
on BBC's 'Ready Steady Cook'. However Paul has
kept his feet firmly on the ground (and out of
the kitchen!) by continuing in his role as Head
of Modern Languages and the running of a large
faculty. Paul has enjoyed going 'head to head'
with ex Ofsted Supremo, Chris Woodhead, in a live
radio debate and bringing home £25,000 worth
of ICT equipment and money for KJS. He was also
privileged to put a question to the panel on BBC's
Question Time (February 2005) and has worked for
BBC Five Live interviewing politicians at the
Liberal Democrat Conference in Harrogate (March
2005) and David Beckham about learning Spanish.
He took part in a BBC Radio 4 programme on humour
in MFL teaching called 'Ha Ha Languages' as he
enjoys a good laugh and told a couple of jokes
in French, live on air!
Paul is currently working on Student Voice projects
and the use of paperless testing in MFL using
Voting Systems and on-line assessment. Paul is
working on links with a school in Sierra Leone
and with his Year 10 Citizenship groups on collecting
shoes for the Blue Peter 'Shoebiz Appeal' to help
Aids orphans in Malawi.
The KJS 'Euro 2004 Project'
pioneered by Paul, has showcased in every school
in the country, appeared on the national news
and has won the school a prestigious European
Awards for Languages 2004. He has appeared on
Teachers TV and writes for newspapers and educational
journals.
Paul leads training at national level on both
secondary and primary languages. He speaks at
national and international conferences on educational
issues and creativity in the classroom. He recently
worked alongside internationally renowned, behavioural
management guru, Bill Rogers, and delivered training
on clasroom management in London.
In his spare time, Paul is an avid football fan,
following his beloved Manchester City!
