“2008
Fun Run the best yet” the
words of Simon Watts Managing Director
of Fiat
Piccadilly and the major sponsor of our Fun Run
for a decade.
We are very grateful to him.
The weather
was glorious, the runners perhaps would have
liked it a little cooler, the sunshine certainly
added to the success of the day. The main contributing
factor to a real “feel good” day though
was the hard work of a fantastic team of well over
50 parents, teachers, their family and friends
working behind the scenes for many months on the
planning and organisation of this very large project
and displaying great teamwork on the day to make
it all run so smoothly and be enjoyable for the
1000’s of people that were there.
An early
start with lots of car booters brought early promise
of a profitable day ahead. The Giant Plant Sale
swung into action soon after and then it was a
frenzy of activity. Just short of 1000 runners
entered the Fun run and a record 184 entered the
10 k trail run. Final figures can be found at the
end of this page. The highest number ever of stalls
and attractions were on the field. From the dance
display courtesy of Studio 3 to the fantastic,
crowd arousing Dakota fly past & Black Knights
Parachutists it was all deemed a huge success.
Money
is still coming in so we are optimistic that the
final total raised will be very high. We are also
sure that many charities will have benefited from
the runners sponsorship and the charity stalls
on the field. This community and charitable aspect
makes King James’s Fun Run something
to be immensely proud of and already we are working
hard having a “hot debrief” to
help plan for next year.
We were sponsored
and supported this year by a large number of
businesses and organisations and a full list
follows. Special thanks to the two sets of parents
who came forward to jointly sponsor the Fun Run;
we hope their businesses will also benefit from
this generosity: Camax
UK (Amanda
and Peter Abbott) and The Whole Picture
Company (Rebecca and Steve Clark).
