King James' School

Every student is expected to do homework to supplement work done in school. The aim of homework is to:

  • encourage students to develop the skills needed for independent learning
  • consolidate, reinforce and broaden the skills, knowledge and understanding developed in the classroom
  • enable students to meet the demands of GCSE coursework assignments
  • contribute to revision for school and public examinations.

When students are set homework, they record it in their planner with a clear deadline for completion. Parents are asked to sign the planner once a week, giving them an opportunity to check what homework has been set and whether it has been completed. The amount of time spent on homework increases through the school but in Year 7 it can be up to one hour per night.

The librarians provide a programme of after-school study skills and homework support.
