Friday 9 November 2007
On Friday 9th November the King
James’s School
Quizmasters Challenge 2007 got underway with a record
number of teams competing for the title and trophy.
Over 150 people turned out to what is now becoming
a major event not only in the school calendar but also
in the local community.
The evening was organised by the
newly elected Chairperson of the school’s P.T.A.
(Parent Teacher Association) Melanie Kirkwood with
help from other volunteer parents and friends of
the school. They were closely assisted by the Quizmasters
for the evening, Deputy Heads of the school, Ian
Simpson and Anthony Walker. Questions in many varied
categories from science and nature to sport were
researched and set by Melanie. Everyone enjoyed a
Ploughman’s Supper and bar, with music
courtesy of Intermusic part of Interact Computers,
whose services were kindly donated by Andy Rolf. The
raffle was a huge success with all tickets sold. Donated
prizes ranged from hampers and wine to a complete valet
of your car kindly donated by Piccadilly Motors.

The
winning team were “Sons of the Desert”.
Dr Carole Walton, Acting Head, presented the new trophy
made by Alan Bolger (teacher of Technology at the school)
using the new laser cutter. Record funds were raised
for the P.T.A. to use to benefit the school and the
education of the students who one day may be working
for you or with you in the local community.
Melanie believes strongly that
we must all give the best education we can to our
youngsters who are our future. By holding events
such as this the school is not only raising funds
but adding an extra dimension to King James’s, creating an excellent opportunity
for parents, staff, Governors, friends of the school
and of course quiz addicts to develop relationships
and links with each other and the community and
enhance communication between everyone for the benefit
of our children.
A parent or carer of a pupil at
the school is automatically a member of the Parent
Teacher Association. King James’s
School always strives to build open useful relations
between parents/carers and its staff allowing a free
exchange of information to enhance the education of
our children.
This is an exciting time to get involved
with a newly elected Chairperson and a new Headmaster,
Mr Carl Sugden, due to take up his position in the
New Year. If anyone would like to know more about the
P.T.A. then please contact Melanie through the school. |
