School Service


School Service is the name given to a variety of activities that students undertake to give something back to the school and the local community. It is a good source of experience and participation is voluntary.

Activities undertaken for School Service are:


Chair/Membership of
Sixth Form Committees
Sixth Form Committee
Leavers' Ball Committee
Leavers' Book Committee

Classroom Assistance Working with teachers in the classroom (with a range of abilities & ages), sometimes providing one-to-one support

Sports Coaching/support Includes running events for partner primary schools

Extra-curricular support Support to staff in running extra-curricular activities eg. Greenpower

Enterprise Young Enterprise often provides new opportunities to KJS, eg. RockFest, Dead Scotsmen, Christmas Festival

Charity Work Some students work for Oxfam, Barnardo's etc

Partner Primary Schools Working on art, sport, IT projects with partner primary schools

Wider School Projects Kings Chronicle & Knaresborough Castle IT project

Prefects Break & lunchtime support for Duty staff
