King James’s Sixth Form is a vibrant, thriving community of valued individuals. We are very proud of our heritage and have strong links with the rest of the school whilst developing a unique post-16 culture based on support and ambition. We are genuinely an open access Sixth Form that puts the individual student at the centre of all we do. Every student, regardless of ability, will be challenged and supported to reach their potential through high-quality teaching, bespoke learning and tailored advice and guidance. Progression from our Sixth Form is led by experienced experts keen to enable all to reach their potential, be that through further study at university or college, a gap year, apprenticeships or employment. Whether it’s the prestige of Oxbridge or the right fit of a vocational course, King James’s celebrates the successful progression of all.
There is more to Sixth Form than exams and we aim to develop all our students to have well placed confidence in their future by enriching their time with us. There are a myriad of opportunities for our Sixth Formers to get involved in and hopefully some we haven’t even thought of yet!
The wellbeing of our students is vital. We appreciate that the pressure of study at Sixth Form level is high, at a time when students often crave more freedom. As a result, we have developed a varied, flexible support structure to meet the demands placed on students.
A strong pastoral team, led by our Learning Managers, is on hand to help students prepare for the transition from Year 11 to Sixth Form, backed up by a Form Tutor that allows us to provide one-to-one support. Form Tutors are assisted by a team of careers, health and academic specialists, who provide the depth of knowledge necessary to support good decisions.
We are ambitious with our students; we want the very best life chances for all. The strength of our examination results, which consistently place us in the top 25 per cent of post-16 providers, open doors to the most demanding of courses at prestigious universities. Career pathways and aspirations vary and many of our students receive support in an area of vocational experience to secure their next step.
We have an Oxbridge support programme to ensure our most able students can compete for internationally sought after places. Many benefit from a gap year or charity work at home before further education or employment.
