King James' School

Advanced Courses

King James’s Sixth Form has an excellent record of results at Advanced Level and continues to offer a broad and balanced choice of subjects and courses.

To progress onto Advanced Level study we ask our students to have at least 5 GCSE at grade 4 and above including English and maths. Individual subjects have their own entry requirements which can be found in the subject pages of of the prospectus.

The majority of Year 12 students will study three Level 3 courses for two years. Students with a strong GCSE profile may be able to pick a fourth subject. They would be expected to study all four subjects for two years. In addition, some students may be able to pick up an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) or Mathematical Studies. We will discuss these options on an individual basis with students. All students will have supervised study as part of their weekly timetable.

When making your choices for Post 16 studies please keep the following in mind:

  • Academic strength

  • Genuine passion for the subject

  • Type of course and assessment methodology

  • Progression opportunities for Post 18

  • Combination of subjects and type of learning

Please read the subject pages very carefully ensuring you are making informed choices about your immediate future as well as supporting your long term plans.

Questions are good! Make sure you talk to subject staff or the Sixth Form team to find reliable guidance that will support you.
