This year’s trip consisted of
77 pupils and 13 staff and departed on Friday the
17th February at 4.30pm with the usual anticipation
and excitement. Yeah right, we couldn’t wait
for the 27 hour coach journey that lay before us (particularly
if you’re sitting next to Mr Keeble all the
way).
The journey is always far more entertaining
than it should be especially if you manage to draw
the short straw and have to sit at the back with ‘the
boys’ (and Zara). Actually, they made the trip
all the more interesting regaling us with stories
and gossip along the way which unfortunately I’m
sworn never to reveal – remember the code!
We were staying at the Wurzenrainer
which is without doubt the best accommodation we have
used with excellent facilities, meals and service
throughout our stay.
The skiing was excellent with blue skies for most
of the week and we alternated between the three areas
of Flachauwinkl, Moadorf and Grafenburg.
In the evenings we took part in many
activities such as bowling, swimming, sledging and
curling and the days were so action packed that everyone
welcomed bedtime with open arms needing the sleep
in order to be revitalised for the following day.
From the first tentative moments on
the mountain to the final day, just about everyone
had surpassed their own expectations and left the
slopes with an overwhelming feeling of achievement
and success. We had dinner one final time, had a medal
ceremony for the days slalom races, said goodbye to
our instructors and then bordered the coach for yet
another 27 hour journey sitting next to Mr Keeble
all the way home.
Special thanks must go to the
trip organisers and team leaders Mr Wells
and Mr Wilson without whose
efforts none of the above would run as smoothly as
it does, and thanks also to the staff members who
gave up their time and efforts in making sure all
involved had the best trip possible: Mr Bolger, Mr
Keeble, Mr Sykes, Mr Tatterton, Mr Hall, Miss Capell,
Miss England, Mrs Gallagher, Miss Forester, Mrs Wilson
and Miss Brabin.
