YEAR 9 OPTIONS & CAREERS EVENT

On the mornings of Thursday 11 January & Friday 12 January 2007, Year 9 students exchanged their usual lesson timetable for involvement in a variety of activities aimed at preparing them for the GCSE Option Choices they will soon be making.

The activities included an Options Fair where Year 9 students asked current GCSE students all those questions they may never ask and interactive Careers software to explore career links with each subject.

Lucy Hazelton (KJS Careers) said:

"Given the fantastic amount of choice that young people have when deciding on which GCSE subjects they want to study, we feel it's really important for students to spend time exploring the options to make sure they pick the most appropriate ones."

"We've tied to introduce some fun into the process by getting them involved in practical exercises which are all aimed at improving their knowledge and helping them understand their own personal qualities and skills."

Careers staff also read extracts from a letter from Tony Blair which detailed his experiences of making choices in Year 9. The event ended with a rousing presentation from John Bentley (Leeds Tykes).
