Community Links

King James´s is extremely well supported by local individuals: some take on responsibilities as school governors; others act as business mentors to Sixth Form students. Local organisations and businesses also give support, whether sponsoring the annual Fun Run and Gala, providing raffle prizes or offering work experience to students.

In return, the school supports the local community in a range of ways.

Open to the Community

Families are very welcome to visit the school at more or less any time (by prior arrangement). In early October we hold an open evening for the community in general and parents of Year 6 children in particular. This covers everything from what you can expect from the school to local authority admissions policy. It is also an opportunity to meet teachers and visit departments, all of which host hands-on events from model-making to star-gazing. A separate Sixth Form open evening is held in January.

Primary Schools

We work closely with all the local primary schools. Visits to our feeder schools are made by staff from across the school, from the Head to technicians. Primary school children are regularly invited to join us for drama productions and sporting events. Year 6 children also attend an immersion day in July before they start at King James’s.

Former Students and Staff

We are frequently visited by former KJGS students, individual ´old boys and girls´, groups and former staff who have kept informal links with each other. We always enjoy hearing their stories of the way things were in the good old days!

Tennis Club

The Knaresborough Tennis Club formally became ‘Knaresborough King James’s Tennis Club’ in 2010. We took the opportunity to refurbish the courts with the support of the Lawn Tennis Association and the courts now have splendid illumination for all-year play. The Club has a thriving youth and coaching section open to all – it can be contacted on 01423 887964.
